Golden Ring of Russia

sergiev_posad_view2The Golden Ring is a chain of small ancient towns situated to the North-East of Moscow and forming a ring. It is one of the oldest and most popular tourist routes through the Russian provinces. The towns of the Ring are Vladimir, Suzdal, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Rostov the Great, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Sergiev Posad. All towns along the way were built between XI-XVII centuries and are often called museums under the open sky. Here monuments of old Russia have been carefully preserved to the present day: old fortress walls and ancient monasteries, whitestone churches, wooden buildings, icons and frescoes. Each town is unique in its own way, a beautiful gem in this marvelous necklace.

The Golden Ring project was launched in the 1960s in order to present to the world unique cultural and architectural heritage of ancient Russia. Beautiful palaces, Kremlins and fortresses, cathedrals and bell-towers come to us as if from a fairy tale. 30 monuments of the region are on the UNESCO list of Worldwide Heritage.

A journey around the Golden Ring is the key to understand the essence of Russia. Equally good for any season, this famous tour is a true encyclopedia of early Russian architecture.
